About Pastor Kim Rev. Peter Kim was born in Taejun, S. Korea and immigrated to America when he was 46 years old. He had successfully run the discount store in Philadelphia for 20 years and presently resides in Marlton, New Jersey.

Though he was raised in a Christian family, it was not until he was 17 years old that he submitted his life to Christ. During the Korean War, he was captured by the invading North Korean army and put into the training camp to be trained and conscripted by the North Korean Army. At the opportune time, he escaped under the cover of night but was soon chased after by the North Korean soldiers to be captured. Seeing that he could not escape capture, he dropped to hi knees and prayed to the Lord for help in escaping. He stayed hidden and prayed for hours and he saw a cross in the horizon just before he lost consciousness. He did not know how long he had been unconscious, but, when he woke up, there were no enemy soldiers around him to be found.

Peter had forgotten the incident for over 35 years until one momentous day. He was in the middle of prayer with the Bible study group and was taken by a strong sense of the Lord's presence next to him. It was an overwhelming, and, yet, deeply personal and warm presence. He sensed the deep voice within him to remind him of the incident: how his life had been saved 35 years ago and that God had given him life so that he may serve God in the future. It also gave him the personal conviction that God has called him to spread the message of the Gospel to the Japanese people. When he was about to leave for Japan, he was struck by a heart attack and went through surgery. Pastor Kim saw this as a sign from God to work with the Japanese people in America, especially in South Jersey and Philadelphia.

Mission and Vision

The life mission of Pastor Kim is to spread the word of God to the Japanese people in the South Jersey region through Bible study and church planting. There are quite a few Japanese Americans, more than 1,000 of them, in the tri-counties - Gloucester, Camden, and Burlington – who are here temporarily with a military spouse, on a company contract, or to study abroad for a period of time, or to call South Jersey as their permanent home.

He envisions that, through his ministry of training and nurturing, the Japanese in South Jersey are being equipped with the Gospel principle. So when they return to Japan, either permanently or temporarily, they can witness the power of the Gospel to their friends, kinsmen, and neighbors so that the good news of the kingdom of God is also widespread in Japan.
