Annual Women's Summer Book Club: Gift from the Sea - 50th Anniversary Edition by Ann Morrow Lindbergh
Here's what a reviewer had to say about the book:
'What amazed me about this book was its timeliness, or should I say, timelessness.
That a middle-aged Caucasian woman, writing during the 50's, could strike such a deeply-felt chord of sisterhood with me, a 30-something African-American woman living at the brink of a new millennium, is truly the mark of a gifted writer.
We "enlightened, liberated" women of the year 2000 think, with a fair amount of condescension, that we have "progressed" so much from that time period.
And yet, the issues Mrs. Lindbergh addressed are still very much with us today: how does a woman fulfill the roles of citizen, artist, wife/partner, mother, career person, friend, sibling/relative, and balance all of that with the time and self-commitment for spiritual/emotional nurturing?'
Sign up sheets will go up in May. Books will be ordered in June from Amazon. We will be meeting twice during the summer, once in June and once in July, to discuss what we have read.
Women's One Day Retreat
The women held a one day retreat, "Sweet Life Cafe", on Saturday, February 13th. Although it started a bit too early for some, the experience was a good one for all. Here's what some women had to say about it:
'It helped us get to know some of the other women in the church and share a little of ourselves with them. I loved mixing up our discussion time with music, food and sharing. I really loved the little box and the moments of quiet time to think about some simple and meaningful truths that we miss in our busyness.
'It was a nice chance to spend time with other Christian women, sharing our walk in honesty. A chance to encourage and be encouraged.
It also allowed me to meet someone specifically who I know God directed me to meet. He's amazing!
'I liked most the fellowshipping with the other women of faith. Sharing our feelings and life experiences and some of our concerns and how we try to live the Word each day of our lives.
'I liked the songs, the quiet time, the mixing it up at lunch, the games. All this kept it moving nicely.
'I like the good fellowship and discussion in groups, I also liked switching it up for lunch and the time alone. It was a profitable retreat.
'I liked that there were women of all ages there.
'It was a casual atmosphere. I liked the rotation of activities: small group, whole group, and time alone; that gave me a chance to experience different facets of God. Bringing our own mugs was fun.'
Get Involved
There are many opportunities for women to be involved in the programs and activities held by the women of Ashland.

Women's Annual Spring Tea
- Saturday May 15th @ 9am
Our guest speaker will be Wendy Johnson, a former long-time member of our church family.
When asked if she would speak she gave an enthusiastic yes, as God had already laid a message on her heart for us.
She wants to do an examination on the story of Rahab to illustrate that God chose saints from the Old Testament, made them part of His covenant family, and used them to further his plan and his kingdom.
Rahab is a great model of salvation coming to someone who didn't seem to deserve it.
Come and be filled with the Word, the Bread of Life, and some scones!
